The Vandeikya Local Government Area Football team has emerged champions of the rejuvenated Benue State Governor’s Cup after it defeated Agatu Local Government Area Football team by 6 goals to 5 in the just concluded finals at the JS Tarka Stadium in Gboko local council.
After the regulation time ended in a goalless draw, the match went into penalty shoot-out where the team from Vandeikya carried the day.
It’s the finals of the maiden Governor football cup tournament at the JS Taka stadium Gboko with Agatu Football team locking horns with Vandeikya Football Team in the male category while Gwer West Football Team played against the Kastina-Ala Team in the female category.
After an exhaustive full time of play the male category ended in a goalless draw. The game stretched into penalties with the Vandeikya Team defeating its Agatu opponent 6-5 to win the trophy.

In the female category the Kastina-Ala Team defeated the Gwer West FC by 3 goals to 1.
While appreciating the State Governor Hyacinth Alia’s passion for sports the NFF President Ibrahim Gusau emphasised the importance of reviving the JS Tarka Stadium to serve as a talent hub for developing players.
The revival of the Governor’s cup and promoting grassroot sports renews hope of harnessing football talents for the National team and sustenance of sports development in the State.
