The All Progressives Congress, APC, Zamfara State chapter, says it has withdrawn its participation in the Bakura Constituency Supplementary Election, scheduled for Wednesday, December 9, to enable the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, complete the process.
The party says, it took the stance, after careful review of last Saturday’s bye-election, and the inability of security agencies to guarantee the safety of voters, during the supplementary election in the fourteen affected polling units.
They alleged that neither the heads of the security agencies, nor their representatives attended the stakeholders meeting, aimed at fine-tuning the measures put in place, to ensure the smooth conduct of the supplementary election.
The Chairman Publicity Committee of the party, Ibrahim Muhammad, said that security agencies are critical stakeholders in an electioneering process.

He said that their absence at the meeting gave cause for concern.
Muhammad noted that they lodged their complaints to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to shift the exercise to a more convenient date, so that all the issues arising from the last exercise will be addressed, but INEC went ahead to fix December 9 for the supplementary election.
