Zamfara State Government has perfected plans to empower 1,000 rice farmers with N250, 000 worth of farm tools and cash of N20, 000 to each, to engage in dry season farming.
This is expected to boost the production of rice, towards ameliorating the effect of banditry activities in the state.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Abubakar Dambo, and the Commissioner for Commerce, Yazid Shehu, in a joint press briefing in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, hinted that the intervention became necessary, to reduce poverty in the rural community.
The representative of the Local Government Sole Administrators, who is the Sole Administrator of the Maru Local Government Area, Salisu Dan-gulbi assured that only real rice farmers will benefit from the intervention.
The state government wants the prospective beneficiaries to make judicious utilization of the tools and money, for which forms have been given to local governments Sole Administrators to distribute to the selected rice farmers in their respective local councils.
