Coronavirus: Lagos State to quarantine returning Chinese nationals

A two-week quarantine awaits any Chinese national arriving Nigeria through any port of entry in Lagos to check the possible spread of Coronavirus the Lagos State Government made the announcement as part of measures to check the deadly Coronavirus reaching Nigeria.

State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi also says the Lagos state government has concluded plans with the Chinese Embassy to make nationals who traveled home for the New Lunar Year Festival to remain there for now so as to avoid the likelihood of importing the deadly Coronavirus into Nigeria.

Addressing newsmen on the level of preparedness of Lagos state to prevent any outbreak of Coronavirus, the commissioner says there are concerns that majority of Chinese nationals resident in Lagos had traveled home for the New Lunar Year Celebration.

The Lagos state government has offered to give free treatment to anybody who reports to any health facility in the state, so as to avoid the situation when some people will sit at home for self-medication due to lack of money and begin to spread the disease.

Professor Abayomi also emphasized the need for all residents to cultivate the habit of regular environmental and personal hygiene so as to prevent another Ebola scenerio that costs many lives in other parts of Africa, even though Lagos state was able to contain it.

 Noting that Lagos was vulnerable due to its megacity status, the commissioner said all necessary measures have been put in place to cater for emergencies
