Kogi State

The Kogi State government has set up 3 committees to revive the transport sector in the state.

Secretary to the State Government, Ayoade Folashade during the inauguration of the committees said the aim is to create an efficient transport system that will also create employment opportunities.

The creation of a transport system that will work for the residents has been a recurring headache for successive administrations since the creation of Kogi state.

The closest the state came to getting it right was in 2016 with the construction and launch of the state mega terminal that was said to be the biggest in Nigeria, commissioned by the then Governor Idris Wada.

The project is yet to fully take off.

But it looks as if things are about to change with the setting up and inauguration of 3 committees to make road and marine transportation in the state more efficient and effective and able to generate revenue

Commissioner for transportation, Baron Joseph Okwoli promised deep public-private sector collaboration to ensure things go according to plan. He promised to coordinate the affairs of the committees and his ministry.

The committees which include those of water, mega terminal and confluence express say the first step is to come up with a viable transportation roadmap for the state. The committees have been given nine weeks to do their findings and chart a way forward for the state transportation system.
