Inspector of Customs, Haruna Aminu injured by smugglers on Nigeria's border with Niger Republic in Katsina State

An Inspector of Customs, Haruna Aminu of the Federal Operations Unit Zone B has been severely injured during an attack by some suspected smugglers, at the Dankama, Katsina State on the border with Niger Republic.

The attack, which seemed coordinated, came almost at the same time as the smugglers attacked officers of the Customs in Kebbi State, killing two of them.

In a statement by the Customs Zonal Public Relations Officer in Kaduna, Superintendent of Customs, Isah Suleiman, the incident occurred at about 1:45pm on Wednesday, August 23, when officers and men went on legitimate patrol duties to the Dankama area of Katsina State.

According to him, while carrying out their statutory duties of anti-smuggling, some hoodlums suspected to be smugglers launched a brutal attack on the officers with dangerous weapons, thereby inflicting several injuries on Inspector Haruna Aminu.

Suleiman added that the wounded officer was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical attention and is responding to treatment.

Customs Comptroller of Forward Operating Unit “B,”  Musa Jalo, is very concerned about the injuries inflicted on his officer and has directed a full-scale investigation, to fish out the perpetrators of the barbaric act.

While restating their commitment to effectively man the borders, Jalo added that such violent attacks will never deter the operatives of the unit from carrying out their legitimate duties, no matter whose ox is gored.
