The Bayelsa state government took another step towards universal health coverage, as the state insurance scheme embarked on an awareness campaign in Yenagoa the state capital to sensitize the private sector on the need to key into the programme.
many at the event, attended by major healthcare stakeholders from within and beyond Bayelsa, described the state governor, Douye Diri as a health-friendly governor which explains how the scheme was given the name ‘Diri Cares”
a team of medical experts from the Bayelsa state health insurance scheme bhis otherwise known as “Diri cares”, were at the popular Swali ultra-modern market on Tuesday to create awareness on the need for the private sector to also benefit from the scheme. the executive secretary of Bhis, Agadah Zuoboemi and the permanent secretary Ministry of Health, Oluwatoyin Azebi highlighted the benefits and urged the people to key into the programme.
also speaking, the state coordinator of the National Health Insurance Authority, Akonfenwe Oyekole and chairman of the trade union congress Tuc Julius Laye gave statistics of beneficiaries so far, pointing out that the advocacy would be taken to the hinterland.

Some newly registered individuals commended the state government and expressed appreciation for being enrolled into the scheme.
According to the medical experts, the awareness campaign is in line with the state governor, Senator Douye Diri’s resolve to take affordable healthcare delivery to the doorsteps of all Bayelsa residents.
