Katsina Killings: State government disputes figures released by the Police

Katsina State govt disagrees with police report over 41 deaths figure, set up commission of inquiry and investigation, support victims family with relief materials

Following the killing of 41 persons in Kankara Local Government Area as a result of the clash between terrorists and the outlawed volunteer vigilantee group called ‘Yansakai’, the katsina state government says it has disagreed with the police over the figures of death, It directed the immediate constitution of a commission of inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding incident amd establish the truth.

Special adviser on Security Matters to the state governor, Ibrahim Katsina disclosed this to newsmen while reacting to the development. He said the inquiry will unravel the circumstances that led to the clash, the actual number of persons dead and the way forward to again, end future occureence can be averted.

Describing the incident as shocking and unfortunate to the state government, katsina said the state has stabilized with just pockets of attacks witnessed.

He added that the state government has immediately sent relief materials to the victims of the incident while security has been beefed up to restore normalcy to the area.

While calling on the people of Katsina to remain calm, the special adviser to the Governor on Security Matters maintained that the security agencies and the government are on top of the situation and therefore, no cause for alarm.

Katsina also faulted the outlawed volunteer groups for not agreeing to incorporate themselves into the State’s vigilante operations and operating without a guide and a clear reason.

He therefore warned residents not to take laws into their hands but to always collaborate with security agencies and the state government to ensure the state is safe.
