Belgian Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus won the Australian Open women’s doubles title after beating two Czech players, Barbra Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova 6-2 6-3 in Melbourne on Friday.
The second seeds, winners of the 2019 U. S open doubles’ crown, were always in control against the third seeds, breaking serve three times in the opening set before taking it 6-2.
In the second set, they achieved the decisive break in the eighth game to lead 5-3 and wrapped up the match in the next game on their fourth championship point after 81 minutes of play.
