In continuation of its drive to effectively curtail attacks on its farming populace the Benue State Government has officially inaugurated and deployed the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC agro rangers unit across the entire State.
State Governor Samuel Ortom who commissioned the security unit in Makurdi, the State capital promised to among others formally allocate the State Command’s current office accommodation to the Corps.
He tasked officers and men of the unit on commitment and dedication to duty, saying their job is a critical one which requires them to demonstrate unalloyed patriotism to the country.

Ortom stated that majority of Benue people depend on farming as their means of livelihood and they desire to be protected at all times, expressing optimism that the coming of the operatives would help curb the influx of herdsmen in the State.
He promised to donate 4 Hilux vehicles to the State Command of the NSCDC for the Agro-Rangers Unit as well as greater support to the Command.
State Commandant of the NSCDC, Kamilu Isah stated that the Agro-Rangers Unit was initiated by the Federal Government to address security challenges in agricultural and agro-allied industries, particularly in rural communities.

He said the special operatives have been trained in counter-terrorism and unconventional warfare, noting that the presence of the rangers would also curtail conflicts between herders and farming communities.
Earlier, the Assistant Commandant General, ACG Zone H, Osaro Osemwengie expressed delight that formation of the Agro-Rangers Unit has become a reality.
He solicited the support of Benue people to enable the Unit succeed.
