Following the death of the index coronavirus case in Katsina state and Daura in particular, the Government has imposed a total lockdown on the town with immediate effect from Saturday, April 11till further notice.
Governor Aminu Masari who announced the lockdown said, it was due to the fact that out of the 23 samples of contact traced to the index case, 3 have returned positive including his wife and 2 children.
According to Masari, the decision to impose the total lockdown was in consultation with the state covid-19 emergency response committee and security agencies in the state giving residents time to buy items this Friday and stock for the containment period.

The Governor further noted that, the lockdown in Daura will affect all markets except for 3 each accredited grain shops as well as pharmaceutical stores in the town.
he also stated that, the 3 positive coronavirus cases have been evacuated and transfered to one of the isolation centres located at the federal medical centre, Katsina.
Masari therefore advised the people to remain calm, cooperate with the security agencies and regularly engage in hand washing, observe social distance and avoid gatherings.
