Edo 2020: Sports Minister announces new date for National Festival

Minister of Youth and Sports Development Sunday Dare has given a definite timeline for the National Sports Festival tagged Edo 2020 as April 2 to 14, 2021.

The Minister who disclosed this in Government house Benin City also revealed that the Federal Government will be giving financial support to Edo State Government for the games billed to take place in Benin City the State Capital.

The National sports festival was initially billed to hold from March 22 to April 1, 2020, with the camp opening for the athletes. The games were however postponed due to the unfortunate coronavirus pandemic and were thereafter rescheduled several times.

Minister of Youth and Sports Development Sunday Dare is in Edo State and has announced another date for the sports festival.

The Sports Minister says the Federal Government is willing to give financial support for the games as the event will be a launching pad for the country’s participation in the forthcoming Olympics.

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki reiterated the readiness of the state to host the event with the expected aid from the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Sports.

The Nigerian contingent to Tokyo 2020 will be camped in Benin city preparatory to their departure for the games
