Edo State Government says it has screened over 4,000 persons in the State for Coronavirus leveraging on a strategic partnership with private hospitals, clinics and pharmacies, which complements the screening exercise that is ongoing across designated government hospitals.
Governor Godwin Obaseki who made this known in Benin City said, the State Government has adopted a robust and scientific approach to tackling the COVID-19 pandemic since its outbreak, embarking on massive screening and testing of residents as a strategy to get a clearer picture of the spread of the pandemic in the State.
He noted that the screenings are conducted in designated Primary Healthcare Centres in the 18 Local Government Areas using mobile post screening centres that move across the 192 wards, as well as private medical facilities.
Obaseki attributed the rise in number of cases in Edo State to the improved efforts at screening and testing.
He says the figures are likely to keep rising as the State pushes to reach its target of screening a minimum of 500,000 persons and testing at least 15,000 in the next few weeks.
