The Joint Border Patrol Team North Central Zone Sector 3, has intercepted a 13-vehicle convoy locally fabricated, and used in smuggling 1,040 bags of foreign par boiled rice of 50-kilogramme each and other illegal items into the country.
Briefing Newsmen in Ilorin, Kwara State The Coordinator of the Joint Border Patrol Team, North Central zone, Olugboyega Peters, said that 43 seizures with the duty value of N61million were made within the space of 18 days from the different axis which include Mokwa-Jebba road, Gwanara, Okuta road among others.
He added that five illegal immigrants were also apprehended and handed over to the Nigeria Police and Immigration, in connection with the locally made pistol and cartridges.

Peters said that the partial border closure was not to witch-hunt members of any community, but aimed at encouraging local farmers adding that it has yielded positive results.
He however insisted that hard times await unrepentant smugglers in the zone as the sector has stepped up extra measures to combat the influx of foreign rice smuggling and other prohibited items into the country.
