A magistrate court in Imo state has granted bail to former governor Rochas Okorocha’s Aide-De- Camp and others for allegedly defaming Governor Hope Uzodinma.
The ADC, Eberendu Chimechefulem, and other Aides to the ex-Governor were arraigned for alleged breach of peace, defamation of character and illegal possession of firearms.
Ruling on the ball application by the Defendants at the Owerri magistrate court,Magistrate, Benedicta Adikaibe insisted that a traditional ruler in the state must stand in as a surety.

The 14 defendants were arraiagned on a six count charge of conspiracy, breach of public peace, possession of fire arms, unlawful destruction of the official seal of the Imo state government, defamation of the character of Governor Hope Uzodinma, with the intent to run down Imo State Government.
Some of the defendants are, Eberendu Chimechefulem, Ebere Nwoke, Basil MBA, Ebuka Samuel, Darlington Ibekewe, Obasi Goodluck, Nwaiwu Ndubuisi, Ekpendu Peace, Steve Anisnuobi and Ebere Nwokeobi.
The Magistrate explained that the decision to grant the bail application was anchored on the fact that the Case is not of a criminal nature.
The matter has been adjourned to March 18 2021 for further hearing.
