The Academic Staff Union of the Polytechnics, ASUP, has began an indefinite strike following what it described as the failure of the government to address their demands.

The strike is coming on the same day as the Judiciary staff union, JUSUN which also shut down the courtrooms, over the non-implementation of financial Autonomy.

The season of Strike had started with the ongoing parliamentary workers strike for financial autonomy for the state houses of assemblies.

Followed by the strike by the National Association of the Resident Doctors, NARD,  which entered its sixth day on Tuesday, in spite of the marathon meetings with the Federal government last week.

Despite last-minute moves by the federal government to stop the proposed strike by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, the teachers union executives on  Tuesday, joined workers in the health, legislature and Judiciary in an indefinite strike.

A meeting called by the education minister Adamu Adamu, appears to have failed before it started,  as ASUP already declared a nationwide strike at a briefing, barely an hour before the meeting with the government.

The President of ASUP, Anderson Ezeibe, had informed Education Minister Adamu Adamu, that there was no going back on an already decided down tool, despite the appeals.

The month of April seems to be a handful for Nigerian government, as it will have to battle to return striking workers back to work and struggle to prevent others from proceeding on industrial action.
