The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in Cross River has called on the state government to drop the intention of resumption of schools amidst the continuous upsurge of the COVID-19 disease in the country.
Chairman of NUJ in Cross River State, Comrade Victor Udu, made the call in Calabar, advising that such resumption will put pupils and students in a state of uncertainty because of the pandemic.
Udu explained that students who are to resume schools will come from all over the country, and so the time to open schools in the state should not be now.
While explaining further the reasons for the suspension of the resumption date, Commissioner for Information, Asu Okang, cited inadequate PPEs, though the Civil Defence Commandant in the state said that laws and directives must be obeyed.
