The Unity Torch of the National Sports Festival has arrived Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital and was received by the Sports Commissioner, Boma Iyaye, on behalf of the State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
The Governor said the festival torch is a further confirmation of Edo State’s readiness to host the sports festival.

Former national swimming champion and current coach with the Rivers State Sports Council, Eric Williams, received the festival torch before it was handed over to the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Sports, Honour Sirawoo, and the Governor’s representative and Sports Commissioner, Boma Iyaye.
The Commissioner also inaugurated the steering committee to manage Team Rivers in preparation for the festival with a charge to take the welfare of athletes serious.
Chairman of the Steering Committee and Permanent Secretary assured the Commissioner of the round-the-clock job for effective representation of the state at the games.
Rivers State finished in the top three brackets at the last National Sports Festival and is looking forward to an eventful outing in Benin City.
