The West African Examination Council, WAEC has announced the release of the results of the 2020 West African Senior Secondary School Certificate,(WASSC) Examination.
Addressing newsmen in Yaba Lagos on Monday, the Head of the Nigerian National office,WAEC, Patrick Areghan, explained that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted academics activities in the country for several months, this year’s result reflects a marginal one point zero six percent improvement, compared with the previous performance of candidates in 2019.
The conduct of the 2020 West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, took a new turn this year, due to the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic.
Despite the challenge posed by the pandemic, the examination scheduled for April 6, was later fixed for August 17 to September 12 2020, after extensive discussions with relevant stakeholders.

The much-anticipated result was released after 3 weeks.
Patrick Areghan also speaks on the withheld results and reason for such action by the examination body adding that the numbers was lower in previous years due to the two meters spacing, occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Going forward The HNO said that, the examination body, recognised the importance of collaboration, making plans ahead, as well as conducting the examination under a short period, as against the usual 8 or 9 weeks period.
