After a keenly contested party elections, Anthony Aziegbeni on Sunday emerged the new Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Edo State, South-South Nigeria.
He takes over from the indefatigable Dan Orbih ahead of the 2020 governorship election in the State that the PDP hopes to wrestle power for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC after 12 years of being an opposition party in the State.

Anthony Aziegbeni is a former member of the House of Representatives who represented the Esan South-East and Esan North-East Federal Constituency in the National Assembly on the platform of the PDP for two terms between 1999 and 2007.
The former federal lawmaker who hails from Edo Central Senatorial District scored a total of 817 votes to defeat his closest rival, Felix Imoisili, who polled 488 votes.
Aziegbemi told journalists after his inauguration on Sunday evening that his first task in office is to ensure that the PDP wins the upcoming governorship election in the State.

A loyal party member who has remained with the PDP since joining it from the founding year of 1998, Aziegbemi is a Russian trained security expert.
